SWAPS

Scenes from a “Switch & Bitch”, Olympia, WA 2002

Everyone has tales of clothing even if they think they don’t.

So, tell me about your grandma’s sweater or your dad’s favorite tie or about your power dress.

Share your stories and/or your pictures about swaps you’ve thrown or attended.  Or just pictures of what you got laid on the floor, hung up the wall and or on your bed.

Please send your thoughts in photo or Quicktime video form to catherine.tyc(at)gmail.com

Here is a picture of Niko when he was about 4 months old in a pile of naked lady party clothes.

This was a very special naked lady party.  My friend Julie passed away from cervical cancer, a growing threat to women in their late 30’s, in August of 2009 and it was one of her wishes that her friends have a naked lady party with her clothes.

It was just a regular naked lady party – other people brought stuff, too – but it felt like every piece was a piece of Julie and her life.  Come to think of it, the first naked lady party I ever went to was at her house.

I came away with a pretty good pile and kept being disappointed when someone would tell me “oh that used to be mine.” I really wanted everything I got to be Julie’s.  In the end, I’m not sure any of the stuff I took home was hers.  But there are a few items I feel pretty sure were and may never fit me, but I keep them in my closet, anyway.  – Sara Lund, mother and drummer (Unwound, Hungry Ghost, The Corin Tucker Band) Portland, OR
